Description : The Modesto Junior College Civic Engagement Project (CEP) invites the community to a free screening of the film “Temple Grandin” on Thursday, November 1, at 7 p.m. in Forum 110 on MJC’s East Campus, 435 College Avenue. The event is part of the CEP Fall Film and Lecture Series. Campus parking is available for $2 in student parking lots.

The Emmy award winning HBO film, starring Claire Danes, presents the life story of Temple Grandin, an autistic woman who faced prejudices and overcame challenges along the path to earning her Ph.D. She is now a professor of animal science and an expert in the field of animal husbandry, where she left her mark by creating more humane and efficient ways of handling cattle. Grandin has also authored numerous books on autism and animal behavior.

Following the film there is a facilitated panel discussion. Guest speakers include Debbie Laffranchini, emeritus MJC professor of child development, Jody Browning Burriss, Ed.D., licensed educational psychologist and coordinator of special education for Manteca Unified School District, and Sean Lish, Modesto City Schools instructor of Pura Vida, a program that combines autism awareness with PALS—Peer Assisting Leadership Students.
