LILA DOWNS

Winner of six Latin Grammys and one Grammy Award, celebrated singer Lila Downs is one of the most powerful and unique voices performing today. A dramatic stage presence and her emotional storytelling through song help Downs’ singing transcend language barriers. She is a passionate human rights activist, explaining why her lyrics often focus on social injustice and the suppressed Latin American stories of women of indigenous and working-class origins. Downs’ influences range from the Folkloric and Ranchera music of Mexico to the music of the southern United States, crossing social barriers and generating sounds that also embrace Folk, Jazz, Indigena and Hip Hop.
