Autumn Has It All In Modesto

If you are like me, you love the fall…cool evenings, incredible foliage, beautiful sunsets, low humidity and awesome ‘comfort’ food. What’s great about being in Modesto is that you get all that and so much more.

The local restaurant scene remains quite vibrant, though all outdoors as of this writing, and our local restaurant, brew pubs, bistros and coffee shops are celebrating fall with nutmeg, pumpkin, roasted local veggies along with stews and grilled favorites. This is the perfect season to support local businesses with an outdoor meal or to go order. The last few months have been hard and our partners have put safety first while keeping the restaurant scene alive.

Treat yourself and take a few days to stay overnight in Modesto. Once you book a room you can book a day trip to Yosemite National Park (the reservations for October filling fast), visit a few local farm stands, the farmers market, enjoy open air dining with wide sidewalks offering space for all or visit one of the regional cheese factories. You can even catch a round of golf or an open-air yoga class. Plus we’re just about to launch our Food, Wine & Spirit series where you can book a cooking class with a wine or spirit tasting after shopping for the fresh ingredients at the local farm stands!

There’s even birding…yes, birding! Recently I learned from our friends at the Stanislaus Audobon Society that the rivers and parks in this area are favorite stops for migratory birds in autumn. So you can take a personal-space long walk in Dry Creek/East LaLoma Park along the river or over at Tuolomne Regional Park and check out our winged visitors. It’s a great way to work off the excellent food you’ll be enjoying during your visit.

Me I like to bike, walk or jog the beautiful tree lined streets and parks. My family likes grabbing a sweatshirt at sunset and heading out to the Virginia Corridor Trail to enjoy the long views with orange, yellow and red sunsets…I think you’ll like it too!
