Know Before You Go: Spring 2026
Whether you’re a local showing off the sights to visiting relatives or a first-timer trekking in from the Bay or the Sierras, here’s how to make the most of your visit.
1. Plan for valley weather
Spring in Stanislaus County is gorgeous, but it can be unpredictable.
Layer Up: Mornings can be a crisp 50°F, but by 2:00 PM, you’ll be basking in a beautiful 75°F sunshine.
The Golden Rule: Always bring a light jacket for those breezy outdoor patio dinners and comfortable walking shoes for exploring the murals.
2. Downtown vs. The Great Outdoors
The Mural Scene: Most of our world-class murals are concentrated in Downtown Modesto. It’s highly walkable, so park once and explore the art and dining on foot.
Trail Etiquette: If you’re heading toward Oakdale or Knights Ferry for wildflowers, remember to “Take Only Pictures, Leave Only Footprints” to keep our foothills pristine.
3. Family-Friendly Navigation
Rest Stops: Many of our farm stands and parks offer shaded picnic areas and restrooms, making them perfect “reset” points for kids.
Event Timing: For big draws like the Modesto Marathon (March 21–22), downtown parking fills up early. Aim to arrive at least 45 minutes before you want to be “in the action.”
