Almond Blossom Cruise
Almond Blossom Cruise
The Bloom May Be Falling, But the Beauty is Just Beginning.

Mother Nature has turned the page, and while our famous almond blossoms have transitioned into the “Valley Snow” that now blankets the orchard floors, the next six weeks are arguably the most spectacular time to find your breath in Stanislaus County.
We call this our “Green Season.” Imagine views layered in a thousand shades of emerald, the snow-capped Sierra Nevadas standing like sentinels in the distance, and cotton-candy clouds drifting through a crisp, mid-60s sky. It is the perfect climate to let your soul relax and your mind wander free.
The experience hasn’t ended, it has just evolved. Yes, you can still walk the orchardsat Rodin Farms, Roberts Ferry Gourmet, and Zinc House Farms. Yes, you can still indulge in Sciabica’s olive oil tastings, savor a legendary Almond Butter Milkshake, or slow down with a flight of wine at Marsella’s, Clark Ferrea, or Stewart & Jasper. Yes, the adventure continues: Discover our two historic covered bridges, hike through the wildflowers along the Stanislaus River, or secure one of the final seats for an unforgettable Orchard Dinner at Richards Ranch (available through March 7th).

Almond Harvest
Once the weather heats up, farmers irrigate the orchards to ensure each drop of water is used responsibly (these green almonds are often harvested for culinary uses). In July, the hulls split open, exposing the shell and allowing it and the kernel to dry. After harvest, almonds go to a huller/sheller facility where a roller removes the hull, shell and orchard debris. Then to the processor for sizing, where the kernels drop into bins by size. They are then kept in controlled storage until either shipped or processed. Learn more about the lifecycle of an almond HERE!

Health Benefits of Almonds
Producing 80% of the world’s supply, California almonds make their way to almond lovers in over 90 countries worldwide. And the biggest almond lovers are right here in the U.S., where over 30% of almonds grown in California each year are consumed.
