Summer Family Fun Day Trips
Welcome to our series of family day-trips to take this summer! Spend these warmer months creating memories to last with your kiddos. In Part 1 of our series, we’ll be exploring options for the days when it’s over 100 degrees and you don’t want to leave the air conditioning (next week is going to be a scorcher!).
Freedom from the classroom can seem like a double edged sword on those hot, hot days of summer. We’ve got you covered though, parents. Families can beat the heat with an indoor-based itinerary exploring Modesto, California!
Indoor Fun (When It’s Just Too HOT!)
Start the day off with some pastries and yummy morning beverages. What about a cheese danish as big as your face and an iced matcha latte from Mocha Magic or a scone or a cream-stuffed almond croissant with a drip coffee at the Bakeshop?
Once fingers and faces are cleaned up, plan for the morning at MoChiMu (Modesto Children’s Museum), burning off that sugar and natural energy. Whether the kids want to scale the Adventure Climber or run their own produce stand at Valley Proud or experiment with physics in the Air Lab, the kids are guaranteed to stay busy and learn while they play. The kiddos may have worked up an appetite after all of that playing – it’s time for lunch!
With plenty of options to explore for lunch, we asked our kids for their favorites. They came back with some great options: Harvest Moon has perfect portions and fruit that kids gobble right up, D’Forno Cocina for the kid-favs menu and charming service from those who get kids, and Churchkey for the huge rice crispy treat that comes with the kids’ meals!
With full bellies, make your way to Bookish. This cute local bookshop will get kids excited to read — and even have a summer reading list to help the littles decide what to get (bonus – they also have a summer reading list for adults!)
With the promise of quiet reading time later this evening, go bask in the glorious air conditioning while watching a flick on the big screen. Catch a family-friendly throwback at The State or the latest blockbuster at the Brenden for the afternoon. Whether you splurge on popcorn is up to you but the promise of fro-yo to end the day at Yogurt Mill will hopefully sate the endless snacking trend!
