Summer Family Fun Day Trips
Welcome to our series of family day-trips to take this summer! Spend these warmer months creating memories to last with your kiddos. In Part 2 of our series, we’ll be exploring the best economical options for families who are budgeting their fun.
What parent doesn’t like fun on the cheap? Modesto has options galore, so we have pulled together some of our favorite activities in a budget-friendly itinerary just for you!
The Great (and Cheap!) Outdoors
Beat the heat for the day and visit the Rodin Farm Stand first thing. A stroll through the shady almond orchard is a great opportunity to talk about agriculture and where our food comes from — plus you can grab some fresh fruit for your morning snacks at the stand.
We recommend a Tuesday or Thursday for your adventure specifically so you can hit up the Modesto Children’s Garden. They have a free gardening program for your little guys that starts their green thumb early. Pro tip – if you’re out on a Tuesday, you can head to the Modesto Nuts game and get 1 free ticket for every 2 items you bring to donate, or if you’re out on a Thursday, you can also hit up the Modesto Certified Farmers Market. Double up on your fun!
As the temperature starts to rise, slip off to the air conditioned bliss of Modesto Library’s children’s section. The summer reading challenge is sure to keep those pages turning and kids learning all summer long.
After taking a break to eat the lunches you packed for the day, cool off for the afternoon at one of the three open pools or nine splash grounds in Modesto. Don’t forget the sunscreen!
